  • The minister has held a meeting with the mayor, Candelaria Testa, to review the resources available during these festivities and has visited the 'María de la O Lejárraga' Women's House where courses are given to guide the Punto Violeta volunteers during the 2024 Patron Saint Festivities.
  • Ana Redondo stressed that “this is a feminist model and a model to follow in advancing rights, in demanding equality; all these new elements that have been made available to citizens reinforce security and coexistence in equality, respect for women's rights.”

“This morning we have proceeded to review the protocol for care, prevention and protection established over the next few days so that women can experience the 2024 Patron Saint Festivities in complete safety,” said the Mayor of Alcorcón, Candelaria Testa, after the visit made by the Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, to our city, whom she thanked for “her support and commitment to the city.”

The Minister, Ana Redondo, has pointed out that “it is an honour to be in Alcorcón at the start of the festivities, festivities that begin with one objective: to be safe and with 'zero aggressions', which is also the objective of the Purple Points”.

She also stressed that “this is a feminist model and a model to follow in advancing rights, in demanding equality; all these new elements that have been made available to citizens reinforce security and coexistence in equality, respect for women's rights.”

“In Alcorcón, the Purple Points are being strengthened, not only with professionals, but also with volunteers who receive training to offer the advice and support that women need,” the minister stressed in relation to the courses offered at the 'María de la O Lejárraga' Women's House, which she visited this morning.

Ana Redondo has highlighted some of these innovations such as “the 'Sentinel Bracelets', to find out if a woman has been subjected to any type of chemical submission; they are safety elements that contribute to and advance equality and rights.”

She concluded by saying that “it is essential to be an example in the progress of equality policies because we are experiencing a great setback, a 'denial' of equality, not only in Spain but in the rest of the world, with examples such as women in Afghanistan.”

For her part, Mayor Candelaria Testa explained that “during these Alcorcón 2024 Festivities, we are maintaining the Punto Violeta for the fifth consecutive year, which is a priority for us.”

He also highlighted important resources such as the 'Sentinel Bracelets', together with the 'on-demand stops' on municipal buses and an early warning system between the booths at the Fairgrounds and the security services, after which he pointed out that "to this end, support from State funds has been important in order to have these possibilities."

In this regard, she stressed that “Alcorcón will become the epicentre of equality policies with the launch of Atenpro, the Care and Protection centre for victims of gender violence that will open its doors soon.

“Alcorcón is firmly committed to equality and that is why we will do everything possible to ensure that these ten days of Fiesta Patronales are peaceful, safe and that all citizens can enjoy coexistence in the different neighborhoods of the city,” said Candelaria Testa.
